TCE Umkhanyakude started in July 2016
The project is running the SRI – Supportive Referral Initiative Program which focuses on offering HIV Testing Services to Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) from 18 month to 18 years, the Orphans and Vulnerable Children's Care Givers and family members of the OVCs.
The testing process includes pre-test counselling and post-test counselling, screening for non-communicable diseases such as Cervical, Prostate Breast cancer, Asthma, Diabetes, Blood pressure TB and Sexually Transmitted Infections. People who need further diagnosis are linked to care and treatment through a referral to the nearest health facility and the Community Health Workers provide the follow-up through care and treatment.
Prevention is encouraged through one-on-one condom distribution and condom outlets that are established in the communities, and education on condom usage through demonstration is provided by the program's Field Officers.
