Humana People to People in South Africa is a locally registered non-profit organisation, established in May 1995. The organisation is registered as a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) under registration number 005-055 NPO and as a Non-Profit Company (NPC) under registration number 1995/004741/08.

Humana People to People in South Africa drives sustainable development through targeted community-based initiatives. Through our Clothes and Shoes Programme, we collect, sort, and resell second-hand clothing and footwear, reducing waste, creating job opportunities and community enterprises while generating funds to support our development programmes.
Climate action is a key focus area. We establish community-based Climate Change Centres, to promote ecosystem restoration, and educate communities on climate change mitigation and adaptation practices.
In the education sector, our Preschool of the Future (POF) programme enhances early childhood development in rural communities, while through our partner KwaZulu Natal Experimental College (KNEC) the programme equips educators with practical skills and humanitarian values to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
In health, our Total Control of the Epidemic (TCE), HOPE, and Malaria programmes provide targeted and door-to-door health education and counselling, support for key and vulnerable populations, human rights defence and GBV intervention and referral for justice and interventions to prevent and control communicable diseases.
Finally, our community and skills development programmes through the Child Aid project empower youth, women, and families through vocational training, entrepreneurship support, household food production initiatives, we care for orphans and vulnerable children, and the promotion of safe and protective environments for children and the beneficiaries like guardians and family members.
Humana People to People South Africa started in 1995 from humble beginnings in Soweto, when a small group of pioneers made a commitment to contribute to the development of the country.

It has grown steadily over the years, especially with the TCE program, Total Control of the Epidemic, as its most significant. The TCE program reached its height in the years 2008 to 2012, but is still active in some provinces. The program has reached more than 5 million South Africans and in close cooperation with the South African government and national and international donors contributed to South Africa being close to bringing the AIDS epidemic under control.
Child Aid, HOPE and Pre-schools of the Future (POF) are other projects, which HPP-SA has continued and started, where the most impoverished South African communities are supported to work together to create better living conditions for themselves.
Humana People to People in South Africa works with a diverse range of partners with whom we share the same social and human development objectives.

Partnerships are mutual: a partner may provide the funding needed for a project, while Humana People to People South Africa provides solutions, because it is rooted in a given community, has tried and trusted project concepts ready, and possesses the needed capacity. Partners include international, national and local governments, foundations, the private sector, multilateral agencies and international organisations.
Partnerships are key to our ability to create and maintain meaningful social and human development projects in accordance with the world’s development agenda.
Humana People to People in South Africa maintains strong and active collaboration with its partners, through on-time delivery of both programmatic and financial reporting, through field visits or ongoing communication to exchange emerging challenges and lessons learned. We also offer good exposure to our partners through our website, social media and publications.
